Cosmetic gum surgery is most often used to correct situations where the tooth and gum are not in esthetic harmony.  This may be either due to a 'gummy smile' (a significant portion of your gum is exposed when you smile) or teeth that appear long due to gum recession.  Cosmetic gum surgery is the procedure of changing the appearance of your teeth and smile by sculpting your gums to a more appropriate shape.  In cases of gum recession, tissue may be transplanted from other areas of the mouth and placed in the areas where gum loss has occurred.  Through cosmetic gum surgery, your teeth can be made to appear either shorter or longer to better match your smile.
